The deadline for Hardship Fund applications is Friday 29th June at 4pm. All applications must be fully complete by this date.

Doctoral Loans

Following the announcement from Student Finance England that they will be introducing a Doctoral Loan for students who are ordinarily resident in England and starting a postgraduate doctoral course, such as a PhD in 2018/19 academic year, we have now received confirmation that Student Finance Wales will also be introducing a similar scheme for students ordinarily resident in Wales or the EU (subject to Welsh Government approval).

Student Loans - Getting Paid Info!

You need to register at your uni or college before any student finance can be paid to you.

Your Maintenance Loan will be paid directly into your bank account at the start of each term but some banks take longer to clear funds. Your Tuition Fee Loan will be paid directly to your uni or college.

Please note that no funds will usually be released until after you have enrolled or collected your student ID card for the first time.

You should also make sure your bank details are up to date – you can do this by logging into your account.

Go through the checklist below, to make sure you get your money as soon as possible:
•You’ve submitted your application and sent all the evidence student finance has asked for. And your application has been processed and approved by student finance.
•You’ve signed and returned your declaration form.
•You’ve registered at your uni or college.
•Your uni or college has confirmed to us that you’ve registered.
•You’ve allowed a few working days for your money to be paid into your bank account.

Beware of Scam Emails Claiming to be from the Student Loans Company

The Student Loans Company has asked us to relay this information to students.

Phishing is a fraudulent activity designed to trick you in to giving out your login details. Fraudsters can then use this information to log in to your account and steal information

Identifying a phishing email
•Be suspicious of any requests for personal or financial information. The SLC will never ask you to confirm your bank details or login information by email.
•'Dear Student’ – phishing emails are usually sent out in bulk and therefore are unlikely to contain your first name or surname
•Check the quality of the communication. Misspelling, poor punctuation and bad grammar are often tell-tale signs of phishing.
•'Failure to respond in 24 hours will result in your account being closed’ these types of messages are designed to convey a sense of urgency to prompt a quick response.
•You should also be aware of suspicious text messages asking you to click a link or confirm information about yourself. The text messages sent by SLC are to give information only.

Student Finance Wales Postgraduate Loan Applications Now Open

If you’re starting a postgraduate Master’s course from 1 August 2017 you can apply for a Postgraduate Loan now!

The quickest and easiest way to apply is online

You should apply as soon as possible to make sure you get your money in time for the start of your course. Don’t worry if you don’t yet have a confirmed place.

You can find a range of resources, including films and detailed guides, to help explain what you can get, how to apply and what, when and how you’ll repay.

Student Finance Wales Part-time Applications Now Open for 2017-18

If you’re a new or continuing part-time student who started your course on or after 1 September 2014, it’s time to apply for student finance for academic year 2017/18.

It’s quick and easy to apply online for both your Tuition Fee Loan and your Course Grant.

If you started your course before 1 September 2014, you should apply on paper from early July.

Have You Registered to Vote?

The deadline to register to vote is midnight on Monday, May 22 2017. Anyone who was previously registered to vote at the EU Referendum or registered to vote at local elections in May does not need to re-register in order to take part in the 2017 General Election.

The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm, Tuesday, May 23 2017.

Final Year Students Hardship Funds Deadline Approaching!

If you are a UK student in your final year (or on a one year course, such as Cert HE or PGCE) and due to end your course in June 2017, you must submit a fully completed application by this Friday, 12th May 2017.

Great News for Continuing EU Students

We have some great news to share with you. Our Cabinet Secretary for Education, Kirsty Williams has announced that EU students applying for a place at Welsh universities for the 2018/19 academic year will be eligible for financial support. This means that EU students will pay the same as Welsh students and will continue to receive funding for the full duration of their courses.

Continuing full-time students can now re-apply for student finance online. You will need to print out the declaration form, sign it and return it to your funding body. Once the application has been processed, you will be sent your Student Finance Entitlement letter.

Student Finance Wales Postgraduate Loan

March 17, 2017

From 1 August 2017, if you’re starting a full-time or part-time postgraduate Master’s course (taught or research based) you may be able to apply for a Postgraduate Loan of up to £10,280, subject to the regulations being made. This is expected to happen in April.
